About me

Hi! I’m Danielle Redden, a multi-disciplinary artist and art historian based in Hanover, Pennsylvania.

I delight in color, pattern, and the joy of translating ideas across mediums. My current creative practice includes relief printmaking, acrylic painting, and gourd lamp-making (yes, lamps made from actual dried gourds).

From grocery store fruit to cathedral arches, I’m always looking for wonder in the everyday. I’m especially drawn to texture, form, and my favorite shape: the circle. My work is rooted in intentional, hands-on making that gives space for ideas to unfold.

Each gourd lamp I create starts with a dried shell. I dye it, carve it, sometimes burn patterns into it, and then drill tiny holes to let light spill through. Every lamp has its own unique base. Some are handmade, some repurposed, and some made in collaboration with other artists.

When I’m not making things, I teach art history. I earned my MA in the History of Art and Archaeology from the University of London (SOAS), and I currently teach in colleges and universities outside of Baltimore and Philadelphia.
